INVALID JSON ANSWER- I forgot the milk
We had everything working fine and even shared lists with my partner. However, for no apparent reason at all the Gadget now says 'invalid JSON answer' when we try to update... with no explantion of what this is or how to put it right.... not very helpful. Anyone had this happen to them? How is it resolved?

I wanted to write this, too. Fine to know it's not only an error at my system. but where's the fault coming from? rtm?

Me too. Also saw a "we got problem" message on the RTM-site earlier today, guess they are having some problem so we´ll just have to wait and see.

The API is down, apparently
According to this entry (status.rememberthemilk.com/2010/01/12/134/), RTM has shut the API down.
By the way, there is a debugging log in C\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Local\Temp\I_Forgot_The_Milk\ (in Windows Seven, not sure about other OS) which can be useful. Mine says something about "Service currently unavailable", which led me to the RTM blog for further info.

Yepp, RTM has shut down the API endpoint for 3rd party applications. You can check their status page here: http://status.rememberthemilk.com/
Copy-paste from the above url:
I hope they fix it soon.
BTW: the gadget displays "Invalid JSON answer" error message because it requests JSON format answers from the API but now it is answered by an XML, which cannot be parsed as JSON, of course.

API temporarily unavailable
Due to issues with the API that are causing slowness across the Remember The Milk service, we’ve had to temporarily disable API access until we’ve tracked down and resolved these issues. This will affect any third-party services or applications that use the API. We hope to resolve this soon, and will be posting any updates here; we apologise for any inconvenience in the meantime.

Re: INVALID JSON ANSWER- I forgot the milk
The error has changed this morning. It now says "invalid API Key" when I try to authenticate. RTM says that the API is re-enabled but may be intermittent.

Same problem here (Win7 64bit Slovenian). The error message says "Invalid API Key".

I'm still getting the Invalid API Key error as well. Hopefully this get's resolved soon since I rely pretty heavily on the IFTM widget for my persnal task management strategy.

Re: INVALID JSON ANSWER- I forgot the milk
Unfortunately, I can't do anything but asking them what happens. I contacted them but I haven't got any answer yet.
I also hope this will be fixed soon.

Re: INVALID JSON ANSWER- I forgot the milk
As I have said a few times in this very thread, the problem is at RTM side, I cannot do anything but asking them what is wrong. I sent them a support req about two days before but they haven't answered yet.

Re: INVALID JSON ANSWER- I forgot the milk
Finally RTM answered my question in email and said that they had to block this api key because it uses to much resources but they don't know yet why. They are investigating and will inform me of any news - at least, I hope
Re: INVALID JSON ANSWER- I forgot the milk
perhaps it would help to make some pressure to rtm and write them that we want to quit our pro-membership if there won't come a solution soon ...?

I just installed the widget and am receiving this same response. I'm using Windows 7. Any ideas?

My advice is being patient until they fix it at server side.
In my personal oppinion, they (Remember The Milk) provide a pretty bad quality service at API level. Okay, the gadget works with a "free API key" so they can do anything they want but please...
