Placing some of the 'Menu' buttons on Googler header?
At first I wanted to ask you to made the 'Change mode' button visible on the 'new-mail-logo' and 'subjects-of-the-mail' pages (say, at the bottom of the page). There should be an quick and easy way to return back to the calendar view without visiting Gmail first, and clicking 'Menu -> Change mode' is not really intuitive.
Then I noticed that 'Add new event' button should be visible in Calendar view as well.
So, combining these ideas here is a 'big one' request: what about adding an option to show 'Change mode' and 'Add new event' buttons on Googler header (say, at far left)? IMHO, this will enhance the gadget usability.

To the header: I don't think so (lack of space). To the bottom besides or above 'scroll down' button: maybe. I'll think about it.

Unfortunately, that is not possible, as far as I know.
